The Human FootPrint

anz-2006-03-28

HFP is a 5-year campaign dedicated to expanding broad understanding of the global public’s questions and knowledge about energy, the environment, and sustainable ways of life. HFP is a non-partisan effort to use the power of modern communication technology and advances in social values research to directly engage the marginalized citizens of the world to participate with others in shaping public understanding of issues like energy, ecology, the environment, and sustainable ways of life. By 2012, the year that marks the conclusion of the Kyoto Protocols, 30 countries from all seven continents will have joined DKI in enabling the international community to gather and generate a global understanding of the environmental condition of the world. We will have shared visions and priorities for impact and action to improve the environment.

Rolling out The Human Footprint

The Human Footprint will begin in six countries around the world. The campaign will roll out in five phases. We are already in the first phase, which will culminate in early 2010. Key milestones of the HFP campaign are as follows:

  • City or National Question Campaigns and ToFV events in six global locations
  • Additional global locations added each year until 2012
  • An international convening where all 35 locations launch ToFV events to see the impact of the Kyoto protocols and of other movements for the improvement of the quality of life

Over 3,000,000 people will participate in The Human Footprint, donating well over 500,000 questions. From the ToFV events and online forums we will produce briefing papers, multimedia presentations, and DVDs (distributed via internet to policy and advocacy groups) on the top questions and knowledge generated by the global public.

How you can get involved in The Human Footprint Campaign

The Human Footprint seeks to partner with NGO communities, organizations across sectors, networks, academics and students, and all people interested in helping build a more sustainable, ecologically friendly and socially just world. The Human Footprint understands that the voices, needs, and visions of key segments of the world’s populations are consistently underrepresented in public and political debates that impact all people on the globe. Most notably among these are poor people, racial and ethnic minorities, women and children. We proactively seek to include and engage these groups and their leadership to join in shaping The Human Footprint, and we actively seek partnerships with organizations and networks deeply connected to and knowledgeable about these communities.
